Players That Contending Teams Hope Will Be Available at MLB Trade Deadline

Earlier today, I named seven players guaranteed to be traded by the July 31st deadline. Not surprisingly, all seven will be free agents after the season and play on teams that aren't in playoff contention now and aren't expected to be a month from now.

On the flip side, there is an entire different group of players that might become available if their teams either fall out of the playoff race or fail to make a run to get back to within striking distance. Then there are the rebuilding teams, such as the Astros and Marlins, with valuable trade ...

Fantasy Analysis: Giancarlo Stanton’s a One Man Show

RotoBallerShawn Caswell recaps Monday’s key performances and gives his analysis of the fantasy implications.

He’s Baaaaaack

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton was responsible for every ounce of offense the team could muster on Monday. Stanton rocked a two-run moon-shot to left off Patrick Corbin in the seventh to tie the game at two apiece, and then hit his second bomb of the game off closer Heath Bell. ...

One man gang: Giancarlo Stanton goes deep twice

As I mentioned in the recaps this morning, Giancarlo Stanton homered twice, notching two of the Marlins’ three hits in the process and all of their RBI. Just another day at the office for the Iron Giant. But watching his two homers is better than reading the box score. Check out the video here. The…

And That Happened: Monday’s scores and highlights

Braves 2, Mets 1: A three-hour and fifty-two minute rain delay? Really? Despite that, Dillon Gee shut the Braves out through eight and a third and drove in the Mets’ only run. And despite that he gave up a walkoff two-run homer to Freddie Freeman just before 1:30 AM. Now they play a day-night doubleheader. Expect many…

Breaking Down Every Miami Marlins’ Odds of Being Moved at the Trade Deadline

At 22-47, the Miami Marlins easily have the worst record in major league baseball.

In other words, the Marlins are saying a la Steve Urkel, "I've fallen and I can't get up!"

But for certain players, they might get a helping hand to lift them up if the Marlins decide to trade them to a contender by the July 31 trade deadline.

However, there are probably 26 Marlins on the team's 40-man roster who will have 1,000-to-1 odds of being dealt to another team because of team control, finances or other extenuating circumstances.

So, with 44 days left ...

3 Trades MLB Teams Can’t Afford to Wait Until July to Make

Teams will normally assess where they are in the standings much closer to the trade deadline on July 31st before deciding if they will be "buyers" or "sellers". Yet, here we are in June and there are a handful of teams that have to feel like they are heading in the wrong direction and it's getting close to "do or die" time.

Back in April, I made some arguments for why teams should consider making trades earlier in the season, if possible, with the few extra wins in the standings potentially being the difference between going to the ...

And That Happened: Tuesday’s scores and highlights

The losing team scored two runs in eight of last night’s fifteen games. I have no idea if that’s uncommon or not, but I noticed it and I’m going to pretend it’s a sign or portent or something. Anyway: Pirates 8, Giants 2: Welcome to the big leagues Gerrit Cole. The 2011 number one pick…

Back in the Swing

Giancarlo Stanton hit his first home run since returning from the disabled list Tuesday night against the Brewers. He timed it well, also, as the two-run shot in the eighth inning put the Marlins ahead to stay as they win the game 5-4.

Will Healthy Giancarlo Stanton Be Auditioning for Midseason Blockbuster Trade?

After being out for over a month with a hamstring injury, slugging right fielder Giancarlo Stanton finally returned to the Miami Marlins lineup on Monday night.

Thus, we can resume asking one of our favorite questions: How long until the Marlins trade him? Generally, the answer is the same as always: soon.

Specifically, though, the answer is probably not really soon. Stanton is a traded man walking in Miami, but counting on him to be dealt by the trade deadline is not recommended.

According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, prospective clubs are saying that the Marlins are still giving ...

Powering Up

The Marlins get this power back as Giancarlo Stanton leaves the disabled list:

With Stanton returning to right field, hot-hitting rookie Marcell Ozuna will move to center. Stanton will bat third in the lineup, while Ozuna will bat fourth.

The Marlins also put first baseman Casey Kotchman (left oblique strain) on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 9. In addition, they reinstated first baseman Joe Mahoney and second baseman Donovan Solano from the DL and optioned them to Triple-A New Orleans.

The Marlins slugged .309 through April 28, .334 since. Their slugging percentage was so bad with Stanton ...
